Paddington The Musical is in the Works with Music by Tom from McFly
In celebration of the 65th anniversary of the first Paddington book, a exciting announcement has been made!
Sonia Friedman Productions, Studiocanal, and Eliza Lumley Productions, on behalf of Universal Music UK, have revealed plans for a new stage production – Paddington: The Musical.
This exciting new venture is an adaptation of Michael Bond’s cherished books and the critically acclaimed films. Currently in the development and workshop stage, the musical promises to bring the beloved bear to life in a whole new way.
The musical score will be crafted by none other than Tom Fletcher, a founding member of the popular band McFly. The book is being penned by Jessica Swale, and the production will be directed by Luke Sheppard.
Producers Friedman and Lumley shared their excitement, stating,
It is a privilege to be creating a new musical about this gorgeous and beloved little bear with such a wonderful team. The magic of Paddington is that, through his wide-eyed innocence, he sees the very best in humanity, reminding us that love and kindness can triumph if we open our hearts and minds to one another. We cannot wait to bring Paddington, his antics, adventures and mishaps with the Brown family, and Michael Bond’s other treasured characters to the stage. We hope to inspire audiences of all ages with fun, beauty, joy, and all that Paddington stands for.”
Paddington’s charm has already been captured in television adaptations and two successful films – Paddington in 2014 and Paddington 2 in 2017.
Fans can also look forward to the third film, Paddington in Peru, which is scheduled for release on 8th November 2024.
The premiere is set to take place in the UK in 2025, with the full creative team, casting, and specific dates to be announced in due course.
